I haven’t worked with my business for over 9 months. WOW! Yep, it’s true and I said it for the whole internet to see.
About ten months ago, I had some major life changes. I got divorced, moved to a new city and started a new job while I adjusted to all the change in a very small amount of time. I focused on connecting with people around me, rediscovering my favorite things and re-centering around new goals and visions for my future.
During this time, I barely thought about my business besides feeling guilty for not doing anything with it. I hid all my stuff in a drawer, didn’t feel like I had a ‘right’ to say I had started my own business if someone asked what I did before and all sorts of guilt driven hiding. It wasn’t fun, definitely didn’t feel good and I wouldn’t recommend doing that, EVER.
However, I would recommend taking a break from your business periodically. Stepping back, taking a vacation and giving your whole self something else to focus on. It reenergizes you, allows for new insight and clarity, and is just plain healthy behavior.
I now have a renewed sense of purpose, a set of new ideas to bring value to this space and am excited to be doing all of this. I feel I am coming from a place of abundance instead of need, and it is a beautiful thing!

Breaks are actually good times to consume sales and marketing books, in order to have the time to digest them, I find.

I agree, Keecia! And it gives your brain time to see how you can implement the things you’re learning!
